Susan Orlean is the latest writer to dip a toe in the eBook pool -- her new work, "Animalish," is going for $1.99 on Amazon as a Kindle single. It's an essay about "her lifelong obsession with animals." The New York Times have a nice write-up about Orlean, her essay, and the eBook biz.

Ms. Orlean said she wanted to experiment with the form because she had done so much writing and thinking about her interest in animals, but didn't see all of the material as suitable for an essay in The New Yorker, where she has been a staff writer since 1992.
