Kirby Ferguson wants you to know that everything new owes a debt to the things that came before it -- even the stuff that appears super-original has its roots in earlier work. Sometimes a seemingly blow-your-mind original idea can crop up simultaneously in different areas. IT'S A CRAZY WORLD. I've been catching his "Everything is a Remix" video series for the past few weeks, and it turns out Charlie's Synecdoche, New York gets a (brief) mention at the tail-end of Part 3.
Everything is a Remix Part 3 from Kirby Ferguson on Vimeo.
Synecdoche pops up shortly after the 8:30 mark. The whole video is great, as is the series -- you ought to check it out, especially if you're an artist who gets worked up over whether or not your work is original enough
Thanks to Kirby for the heads-up!
