Steven Zeitchik of the L.A. Times brings cool news of a possibly-upcoming project WE KNEW NOTHING ABOUT and still know very little about, and more info about one we ALREADY KINDA KNEW SOMETHING ABOUT.

The one we knew nothing about: seems Charlie and Spike are currently pitching a new film to prospective studios:

While the plot is being kept under tight wraps -- it's a pitch, so a script has yet to be written, and Kaufman movies are famously hard to describe in a few sentences anyway -- two people familiar with the project said it has been making the rounds to independent financiers in recent weeks.

That's all we know about that one.

As for the other project we kinda knew stuff about: it's been referred to as "Untitled Awards Project," and Charlie has said he's writing something inspired by the weird anger culture you see online and in other places. (You know, people on internet forums who blow a gasket and want to kill a director because they didn't enjoy his latest film - that kinda thing.) Charlie will probably direct it himself. And that's what we know so far. We had some dicey information that led us to believe it might be called Tentative - but no, doesn't look that way now. Here's the latest, including a bit of a plot synopsis:

... Kaufman has been writing a script that he has called  "Frank or Francis," according to several people familiar with it. The film, perceived as commercially tricky but also beloved, is a Hollywood satire in the form of a musical (!) and has an art-imitating-life conceit somewhat in the vein of "Adaptation." (The basic premise: a director embraced for broadly commercial hits resents his success and wants to be considered an auteur and artiste. [...])

The project had been set up at Sony but does not appear to be moving forward there at the moment, say two people with knowledge of its progress. (Source)
