Charlie Midnight, Alien Nation and the Fat Zip

Remember a while ago I mentioned a songwriter named Charlie Kaufman, who goes by the moniker "Charlie Midnight"? No? Oh well, you missed out. At the time I figured it was a different Charlie - c'mon, he's hardly gonna write tunes for Hilary Duff and Britney - but our old amigo Twink Schiff has come across some interesting Kaufmanalia thanks to the U.S. Copyright Office's search engine.

[The search engine] lists 18 different Charles Kaufmans, including a rather prolific songwriter who goes by the pseudonym "Charlie Midnight." Two of his works are grouped with the Charlie Kaufman born in 1958 and co-registered with Paul Proch. But this particular Charlie Kaufman's IMDB entry lists him as the brother of a Lloyd Kaufman and says he now runs a bakery in San Diego.

Still sceptical, but with a side of "Hmm."

Other stuff you'll probably be interested in:

Charlie co-wrote an episode of "Alien Nation," a short-lived TV series based on the science fiction movie of the same name. His episode, titled "Eyewitness News," was about a man obsessed with an alien porn star. (Imagine that!) His co-authors were Steve Long Mitchell, Craig W. VanSickle, and Larry B. William. Columbia House briefly issued this series on DVD but does not any longer; volumes occasionally come up for sale on eBay. (Registration #PAu-1-306-371, Dec. 7, 1989)

I remember that film, and the series. Never saw either of them, but I remember 'em. And one other thing that we already knew a little about:

Charlie and Paul co-wrote two works in 1982: a screenplay, "Purely Coincidental," 204 pages (registration #PAu-434-320, Sept. 2, 1982), and a play, "The Fat Zip," 107 pages (registration #PAu-469-036, Jan. 4, 1983).

204 pages, phwoar. Needless to say, if you one day rummage through your closet and find any copies of those scripts, drop me an email.

That's it for now.

Just a really quick thanks to Dr. Jonathan Carter and his amazing team, and to all of the great staff at RPA hospital, who basically saved my grandmother's life and took care of her these last 3 weeks. You guys are awesome.
