Synecdoche a "Blue Moon Masterpiece"

If you've been wondering what Daniel Waters (writer/director of Heathers, Hudson Hawk and Demolition Man) does in his spare time, evidently he sees 300 or so movies per year and ranks each and every one of 'em. This year (or last year, I suppose), Synecdoche was the only film to rank 10/10. ("if you didn't respond to it as much as I did...you're lucky.")

Am I the only one who finds it slightly weird and depressing that his c.v. gets mentioned almost as a footnote, halfway through the article? Heathers is a cult classic, man.

His full list for '08 is here. Makes for some entertaining reading.

(And maybe I'm just really tired -- it's late here -- but can anyone explain why there's a seemingly-random paragraph near the beginning, about the father of a soldier in Iraq?)
