Synecdoche is getting a lot of quick mentions in the press re: Cannes. Nothing particularly quote-worthy, but here's something about a screening this Saturday:
Perhaps the biggest wild card is "Synecdoche, New York," Kaufman's $20 million-plus directorial debut. The dreamlike film chronicles 40 years in one man's life as he undertakes a surreal mission: to direct a play in a city within a city within a warehouse. The special-effects-filled film has been described as intense and uncompromising, and while it doesn't screen until May 23, a buyer screening this Saturday will provide the first test of distributor interest. If you're wondering who'll be scoring Synecdoche, it appears the music will be composed by Jon Brion, who was behind the music in Eternal Sunshine. Thanks to Dani and Will for the heads-up on that one. (And now I notice Brion is mentioned on the Cannes site, which I linked to last update, but to be honest I hadn't actually read the damned page, dazzled as I was by those Synecdoche stills.)
