Seems it's a done deal - Sony have bought the distribution rights to Synecdoche, New York.
An October release is planned. Sony Classics co-toppers Michael Barker and Tom Bernard said in a statement that they had avidly pursued the film since Kaufman described it to them over dinner two years ago. (Source)
