INSANELY JEALOUS. Got a note from the winner of the Paul Proch "New Ear" auction and now I hate her, in the nicest possible way. She had a hell of a time.
The Coens' play "Sawbones" was the first cab off the rank and apparently the music that opened the whole shebang was very good. "Sawbones" lasted around 30 mins, if that. Cackles from the audience and much applause at the end.
The Kaufman play - "Hope Leaves the Theater" - involves a "play within a play" inside an elevator. Everyone who's seen it, has a hard time describing it afterward. I haven't seen it, so I'll explain it instead. Kidding. "Intense" applause from the audience after that play. Once the show was over, the eBay auction winner did some schmoozing at the after-party. Official schmoozing! She met MERYL. She met BUSCEMI. She met DINKLAGE. SHE MET CHARLIE BLOODY KAUFMAN. Oh, the humanity. Time for me to slit my wrists. (Side-note: the phrase "Mick says 'Hi,'" came up during their conversation. Charlie had no idea who Mick might be, until: "The Charlie Kaufman website guy." This got a grin, apparently. That's two steps up from a screaming exit and a security alert, so I say THREE POINTS TO MICK. He loves me!) Everyone was supremely nice, signing autographs and whatnot. I should sell BCK T-shirts for people to wear at events like these... hmm.
Also getting one or two reports from other peeps who went to the NY shows -- check those out here, and add one of your own, if you attended. (If you can't be bothered registering to post on the BCK message board, you could just drop me a note and tell me alllll about your "New Ear" experience. Still, the board has its share of porn-obsessed members and unsubtle flirters; to some that may be a selling point.) [Addendum: Just got a nice summary of the play via email, so I'll upload that later.]
See, now aren't you guys sorry you didn't put in a bid on eBay? That'll learn ya.
One of the Brooklyn shows was recorded for broadcast on Sirius Satellite Radio, so if any of you are able to record and encode it for the site, that would be mighty mighty swell. I have no idea when they're gonna play it. And I don't know squat about Sirius.
