BCK's turning 9!

We're turning 9 in about 2 weeks - that's 84 in website dog years. And since I am the only person who uses the worldwide internet computer web during the week leading up to Christmas, I figured I should mention it now.

December 18, 2001, I uploaded the first few pages of this here site. Most of you WEREN'T EVEN BORN. We were on a small, free Tripod hosting account, we were butt ugly, and we barely knew what we were doing. I say "we" but mean "I." I'm royal that way. And I still barely know what I am doing. (This applies to life in general.) I've told this story before: built the website because I'd wanted to build a site about SOMETHING, and I was getting into Charlie's scripts, and he had 3 films coming out that year, and I didn't want to build a site about anyone who ALREADY had 100 sites dedicated to them... so Charlie got the gig. (And don't he just love that?!)

I had seen a grand total of one Kaufman film, Being John Malkovich, and I did not enjoy it. I loved the first draft of the script, which was unlike the version they shot. (I've since changed my mind about the film - it's not my fave CK film - it falls somewhere in the middle - but I certainly dig it.) At the time, I was more interested in the interviews CK was giving to promote his films. He seemed like my kinda guy. He still generally seems like my kinda guy. Adaptation came out, the website crashed, Sony Pictures rescued us, we moved to new hosts, a whole bunch of cool and weird and interesting stuff happened for the next 8 years, and here we are today. (There's more on BCK's history on the somewhat-outdated About the Site page.)

Fan sites are a dying breed, which is kind of a shame, though of course it takes time and money and Not Having a Life. Your emails and comments, your news tips, trivia, questions and all the rest of it - even if you're just saying Hi - are what keep BCK going. I always love hearing from you infinitely, infinitely cool peeps, and I never cease being surprised by the various kinds of folks who enjoy Charlie's work and take the time to drop me a line. Awesome!

So anyway. HAPPY BIRTHDAY US. We should have, like, BCK Birthday wallpapers and fan art and stuff, but I am not remotely artistic when it comes to drawing or image editing. *sigh*

Since we're entering our 10th year and all, I'm wide open to suggestions on how/if we ought to celebrate. I'll mention this again later. Any thoughts?
