There's another Charlie Kaufman in the world of film-making, whose name — crazily enough — is Charlie Kaufman. The odds! Our part-time researcher extraordinaire, Dave, dug up one of the “other” Charlie's films — When Nature Calls — and sent in some clips and info.
I picked up the DVD of “When Nature
Calls,” written and directed by the other Charles
Kaufman. His brother, Lloyd, owns Troma Studios, which
released the film. Troma's other productions include
“The Toxic Avenger” and “Class of Nuke ‘Em High.” (In
other words, not quite “Being John Malkovich”
caliber.)“When Nature Calls” is essentially “The Wilderness
Family” with potty jokes. It begins with several
skits, including “Raging Bullshit,” an amusing riff on
the Scorsese/DeNiro classic. The DVD contains an
extended interview with Charles, who now runs the
bakery “Bread and Cie” in San Diego.
He ain't kidding about the potty. The clips:

If you're at work, playing those clips with the volume up may lead your colleagues to think you have a bowel problem.
::shudder:: So it's pretty safe to say that “our” Charlie was the guy behind that Alien Nation episode mentioned on May 9. Now let's all go take a long shower, wash our eyes with soap and hunt for a therapist to erase unpleasant memories of the clips above.
