"You know, I'm not a jumper"

Even more courtesy of Tram: how did Charlie react when told he's been nommed for a Golden Globe?

Charlie Kaufman woke up at his usual early time in his Pasadena home to find he had a message on his answering machine. It was from a Focus Features publicist telling him he'd been nominated in the best screenplay category for "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind."

Kaufman must have jumped for joy, right? "First of all, it's very early in the morning, so I'm not doing a lot of jumping, and you know, I'm not a jumper," he said. "It would be odd if I jumped up for joy. So I didn't. But it's a nice acknowledgment of the movie. I'm glad that Kate (Winslet) and Jim (Carrey) got acknowledged. We came out a while ago, so you can never really know."

Kaufman plans to hit the keyboard to continue working on a screenplay that Spike Jonze is slated to direct. It's supposed to be a horror script. Or is it? "I guess that's what it's being called," he said. "I'm not really sure. It's not a conventional horror movie as far as I can tell. But I guess it's going to be somewhat troubling. Maybe it's just troubling to write. I can't tell you for sure at this point."

Pshaw. Charlie has 'jumper' written all over him. It's almost as debilitating as that famous fluttering menu problem. Reactions from other nominees can be found here.

It's 11pm where I am and some idiot is hooning around, revving his engine on the beach near here. It's the most annoying sound in the world, and after half an hour it is driving me absolutely batshit. So I'll just focus on this update and hope it diverts my attention from the murderous rage that's building within.

Interviews and whatnot! One last bit from Tram: A movie mystery man's labor of love, nice little profile piece on Charlie at CNN. And here's a 4-page Q&A at Premiere, mostly about the lack of respect given to writers in Hollywood, and also about Eternal Sunshine. Thanks to Birger for that one.

Fan art! Two wallpapers, and they look real nice-like:

Both are 1024x768, and they're from Brian Thompson.
