Boffo Anomalisa reports

Click for the rest of his thoughts, and the thoughts of other BCKsters'. I'm so damned considerate, I've put all of our visitors' reviews together on one page. Including this one, from Kevin:

I attended this at UCLA last Wednesday (opening night) and it was boffo. Lots of tinseltown stars in attendance (Ron Livingstone, Eric Idle, Brian
Cox, the blonde doctor from Scrubs, and the girl who plays Sydney's sister
on Alias. I'm so unhip that I don't know their names).

The two halves were VERY different. “Anomalisa” was very cool. The plot follows
a customer service expert flying from Los Angeles to Cincinatti to give a
lecture. He looks up an old flame, meets her for a drink, which ends badly,
and then meets two women at his hotel who are in town for the lecture. He
has a brief affair with one, which also ends strangely. There are many
Kaufman-esque twists, turns, and utterly strange happenings along the way.
All of the actors were great, but the high point has to be Jennifer Jason
Leigh crooning a Japanese song (through a tinny microphone) as the voice of
an antique Japanese sex toy.

“Hope Leaves the Theater” was great as well. A high point
has to be Meryl Streep pontificating about working with Charlie, and what a
great experience it was on “Adaptation”. When Peter Dinklage tries to work
in his own anecdote about working with him on “Human Nature”, she quickly
cuts him off and says “Yes, but that movie wasn't very good.” Hilarious.

They got a standing ovation, everyone seemed to love it!

Jennifer Jason Leigh as a Japanese sex toy? Alrighty. Reminds me of when Jodie Foster starred in The X-Files as the voice of an evil tattoo. No kidding.

Jury's still out as to whether Fregoli really is Charlie, by the way. If you were at the UCLA shows, too, and have something to add, hit me with it.
